2. How long does a DOT exam take?
Most exams take around 20 minutes, depending on your medical history.
3. What should I bring to my DOT exam?
Please bring:
- A valid driver’s license.
- Glasses or contacts (if you wear them).
- Medication list.
- CPAP compliance report (if applicable).
- Any recent medical records (if you have ongoing medical conditions).
4. Will I get my medical card the same day?
Yes — if you pass the exam, you will receive your Medical Examiner’s Certificate (DOT card) the same day.
5. What happens during the exam?
Your provider will check:
- Vision & hearing.
- Blood pressure & pulse.
- General physical exam.
- Urinalysis (not a drug test).
6. Is the urine test a drug test?
No.
The DOT urinalysis only checks:
- Blood sugar
- Protein
- Kidney function
NOT drugs.
7. What if I have high blood pressure?

- You may still qualify for a 1-year certificate if it is controlled.
- Very high readings may require a short-term certificate or follow-up with your doctor.
